There are only two reasons why a golfer should go on the putting green before a competitive round of golf. These reasons are to gain confidence and feel. This is best practiced with out a target. Next time you practice before a game try putting to the fringe of the green. Try to stop the ball as close to the fringe as possible, this will give you a great feel for the speed of the greens without letting yourself be too judgemental on results. This will also build confidence as you are not building images up of missing the hole.
Remember golf is a target sport during your next round think only of your target and stay in the present moment and take one shot at a time.
